Last Monday it was finally the day to drop off the car in the harbour of Hamburg to sent to off on its long journey to South America!
We booked a spot on the boat through a company called SeaBridge, which made sure that our Defender could be classified as a camper. This made it was possible for us to ship the car including some personal belongings, since it normally needs to be totally empty. The process at the terminal in Hamburg was actually really smooth, and in one hour we did all the paper work, dropped of the car and handed over the keys. Now Miles is in the hands of the Grimaldi crew…
The car was loaded on the Grande San Paolo RoRo ship, and set off on Wednesday. Now it will travel through the waters of West Europe and West Africa, before sailing to the other side of the pond. If all goes well, we will be able to pick up the car half December.. fingers crossed!
Meanwhile we will already start our journey in South America. We will soon head off to the Galapagos Islands, which will be the first destination of our travel. We can’t use a car here anyway, so better go there while our Defender is on its way :). After the Galapagos Islands we will travel to Peru, and make our way from Lima to Cusco, were we will visit Machu Picchu. Then we will make our way to Montevideo to pick up the car and start our overlanding adventure!
I keep you posted 🙂
